The Maryland Troopers Association

The Maryland Troopers Association was organized in 1979 for the purpose of advancing the principles of professionalism in law enforcement and to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between employees and the Administration concerning issues of mutual concern.  This Association contributes significantly to protecting the security of troopers, civilian MSP personnel and retirees by providing a benefit package that addresses legislative representation in matters of public safety, legal representation, education and training scholarships, and death relief.

The year 2017 membership of the MTA stands at approximately 2,629 of which 1,120 are active members and 1,509 are retirees.  To facilitate the effective management and participation of our members, the MTA has 13 Lodges located thoughout the State of Maryland.   Please visit our lodges section for more detailed information concerning the lodges.

  • 40th Annual MSP Softball Tournament

    July 28, 2015

    Date: Tuesday, July 28, 2015, 9:28 AM

The 40th Annual MSP Softball Tournament to be held next week, August 5th and 6th at Pinecliff Park in Frederick, MD.  Each team will play 2 pool games which will end by 1300.  All teams will then play at least one double elimination game prior to the end of day. The championship game is scheduled for 1600 on the 6th with the "IF" game at 1700.

If you do not have a team to play for, STILL COME OUT AND ENJOY THIS GREAT TIME!  Teams grill great food during down time and there is pit beef and turkey to purchase as well.  The Maryland Troopers Association, who sponsors the majority of the tournament, will have the store "van" there as well to purchase items.  Questions can be directed to D/Sgt. Smith at
brian.smith@maryland.gov. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

The format is the same as last year as ALL teams will go into the same double elimination bracket.  There is no "gold" or "silver."  The one slight adjustment I made was this.  There are always the "favorites to possibly win" the tournament. Those "big 3" were identified as CED, North East, and Southern "A".  Instead of these teams playing weaker teams in the first two games, these 3 teams will be placed in the same bracket and play each other.  They will be seeded 1 through 3 for the double elimination portion.  Other teams that win their respective bracket will be playing for #4 through #8 through blind draw, etc.  If it doesn't make sense, I'll explain it later.

Give me a call if you have any questions or think your team may drop out due to numbers.  PASS THE WORD ON AND LET'S HAVE A GOOD CROWD OUT THERE NEXT WEEK!!!!  Smitty 301-667-0600
