The Maryland Troopers Association

The Maryland Troopers Association was organized in 1979 for the purpose of advancing the principles of professionalism in law enforcement and to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between employees and the Administration concerning issues of mutual concern.  This Association contributes significantly to protecting the security of troopers, civilian MSP personnel and retirees by providing a benefit package that addresses legislative representation in matters of public safety, legal representation, education and training scholarships, and death relief.

The year 2017 membership of the MTA stands at approximately 2,629 of which 1,120 are active members and 1,509 are retirees.  To facilitate the effective management and participation of our members, the MTA has 13 Lodges located thoughout the State of Maryland.   Please visit our lodges section for more detailed information concerning the lodges.

  • Death Notification - Retired Sgt. Raymond Leard

    August 7, 2015

We regret to inform you of the death of Retired Sergeant Raymond Leard on August 5, 2015.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Ray's family and friends at this time.  Immediate arrangements will be private.  Memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at 12:00 hours at Soursis Saloon, 537 York Rd, Towson, MD 21204, (410) 296-1997

The following announcement was authored by Retired D/Sgt. Augie Stern:

On August 5th at 5:30 PM our dear brother Ray passed into history. He fought a courageous battle and was able to say farewell to all his friends here and in Mexico. He had returned from Mexico to the comfort of family and friends. He was with his family when he passed and the passing was peaceful and comfortable. At the request of Ray and the family, the service and the internment will be private. The family will have a memorial service for Ray at a later date. Ray was a special guy who truly served as an ambassador for the MSP with surrounding law enforcement organizations, he will be sorely missed by all of us. We all wish him fair winds and safe sailing on his journey home.

On August 5, 2015, Raymond F. Leard, 73, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Ray's love of life and his sense of adventure were hallmarks of his character. To describe Ray in a few short paragraphs would not do him justice. Ray was personable, wise, and full of common sense. If he liked you, you had a friend for life. Family and friends knew him as steadfast, loyal, and loving. The stories Ray told will live on - he was proud of what he accomplished in his long career, and rightfully so. In his final days, many who loved and respected him were able to visit with him. That revolving door of close friends and loved ones bears truth that his legacy will not be forgotten. Ray is survived by his loving family and numerous friends from all over the world. In truth, he was one of the most unforgettable people you could ever meet. There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, August 23, 2015, from 12-4pm at Souris' Saloon, 537 York Road, Towson, Maryland 21204. Contributions in his memory may be sent to The Adam Michael Kodeck Educational Fund, C/O Sinai Hospital, 2401 W. Belvedere Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21215.
