The year 2017 membership of the MTA stands at approximately 2,629 of which 1,120 are active members and 1,509 are retirees.  To facilitate the effective management and participation of our members, the MTA has 13 Lodges located thoughout the State of Maryland.   Please visit our lodges section for more detailed information concerning the lodges.

  • Line of Duty Deaths - Harford County Deputies Dailey and Logsdon

    February 11, 2016

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the line of duty deaths of Harford County Senior Deputies Patrick Dailey and Mark Logsdon on February 10, 2016.  Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and the entire Harford County Sheriffs Office as they cope with this tragedy and tremendous loss.  Funeral arrangements have not been finalized at this time.

Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon were shot and killed by an emotionally disturbed person who was wanted in Florida.

The deputies had been dispatched to the Panera restaurant in Abingdon after the man's ex-wife had called to report the subject was there. Deputy Dailey, who knew the subject, sat down at the man's table and asked how he was doing. Without warning the subject produced a handgun and shot the deputy in the head, killing him.

The man fled into the parking lot where he was confronted by Deputy Logsdon. The subject shot and killed Deputy Logsdon before he was killed by two other deputies.

Deputy Dailey was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Harford County Sheriff's Office for 30 years. He is survived by his two children and mother.

Deputy Logsdon was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Harford County Sheriff's Office for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, three children, and parents.
