The Maryland Troopers Association


The Maryland Troopers Association was organized in 1979 for the purpose of advancing the principles of professionalism in law enforcement and to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between employees and the Administration concerning issues of mutual concern.  This Association contributes significantly to protecting the security of troopers, civilian MSP personnel and retirees by providing a benefit package that addresses legislative representation in matters of public safety, legal representation, education and training scholarships, and death relief.

The year 2017 membership of the MTA stands at approximately 2,629 of which 1,120 are active members and 1,509 are retirees.  To facilitate the effective management and participation of our members, the MTA has 13 Lodges located thoughout the State of Maryland.   Please visit our lodges section for more detailed information concerning the lodges.  

 To Register as a new user on the Maryland Troopers site, follow these steps: 

1. Mouse over the "Troopers Only" tab and a drop down menu will appear. 

2. Click on "Register". 

3. Fill out the information requested and submit.

4. An e-mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address to confirm that it is legitimate.

5. Follow confirmation instructions  

6. The webmaster will check your status and complete the authorization process.  

7. In the future, Click on "Log In" under the "Troopers Only" tab and use your new Username and Password whenever logging in.

  • Death Notification - Retired Sgt. Virginia Prince

    We regret to inform you of the death of Retired Sergeant Virginia E. Prince, wife of Retired Sergeant Charles Prince, on July 7, 2012.  The following information has been reprinted from the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home website.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Prince family and their friends at this difficult time. 
    Visitation will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Maryland 21620 on July 12, 2012 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM with a service immediately following the visitation hours at 7:30 PM. 
    Obituary for Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Prince
    Virginia Elizabeth Prince died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She was 48.

    Virginia E. Prince was born August 14, 1963 in Westminster, MD the daughter of Robert L. Thrasher and Shirley (Barrett) Thrasher. Virginia was a 1981 graduate of Franklin High School in Reisterstown. After high school she went into the Maryland State Police and worked for 24 years, retiring as a Sergeant in April of 2005. After retirement Virginia ran several other businesses including Elegant Events, Prince Limousine, American Container, VA Brokerage and C.W. Prince and Associates. On June 16, 1989 she married her husband of 28 years, Charles (Chic) Wingfield Prince. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and also volunteered at the Kent County Humane Society. Her interests included swimming, collecting Hummels, watching Wheel of Fortune, and she loved spending time with her children.

    She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Charles (Chic) Prince of Chestertown, MD, two daughters, Victoria Elizabeth Prince, Danielle Nicole Prince both of Chestertown, MD, two sons, Douglas Robert Prince and Jamal D. Prince both of Chestertown, MD, her mother, Shirley Thrasher of Reisterstown, MD, her father, Robert Thrasher and wife Ilene of Florida, two brothers, Stewart Robert Thrasher and wife Catherine Potter of Hampstead, William David Thrasher of Reisterstown, MD, two sisters in law, Faith Prince of Chestertown, MD, Do Leonard and husband Rick of Church Hill, MD, two brothers in law, Mike Hession of Luray, VA, Peter Prince of Bloomington, Minnesota, her god son, Derrick Leonard of Church Hill, MD, her aunt, Lesa Gustafson of Crumpton, MD, and Nancy Meeks of Chestertown, MD.

    A visitation will be held Thursday, July 12, 2012 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd Chestertown, MD. Service will be held following the visitation at 7:30 at the Funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Kent County Humane Society, P.O. Box 352 Chestertown, MD 21620.

    Maryland State Police Fallen Heroes Ceremony will held in the MSP Quadrangle at MSP Headquarters, Pikesville, Md.  A luncheon,  provided by the Maryland Troopers Association, will follow the ceremony.
