The Maryland Troopers Association


The Maryland Troopers Association was organized in 1979 for the purpose of advancing the principles of professionalism in law enforcement and to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between employees and the Administration concerning issues of mutual concern.  This Association contributes significantly to protecting the security of troopers, civilian MSP personnel and retirees by providing a benefit package that addresses legislative representation in matters of public safety, legal representation, education and training scholarships, and death relief.

The year 2017 membership of the MTA stands at approximately 2,629 of which 1,120 are active members and 1,509 are retirees.  To facilitate the effective management and participation of our members, the MTA has 13 Lodges located thoughout the State of Maryland.   Please visit our lodges section for more detailed information concerning the lodges.  

 To Register as a new user on the Maryland Troopers site, follow these steps: 

1. Mouse over the "Troopers Only" tab and a drop down menu will appear. 

2. Click on "Register". 

3. Fill out the information requested and submit.

4. An e-mail will be sent to your registered e-mail address to confirm that it is legitimate.

5. Follow confirmation instructions  

6. The webmaster will check your status and complete the authorization process.  

7. In the future, Click on "Log In" under the "Troopers Only" tab and use your new Username and Password whenever logging in.

  • Death Notification - Retired D/Sgt. David Michael

    September 18, 2012


    Sergeant David William Michael, Maryland State Police, Ret., 70, a longtime resident of Pasadena, died at his home on September 17, 2012 after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

    David was born on February 18, 1942 in Baltimore, he was the son of William and Margaret Michael. He graduated from Edmondson High School in 1962 and served in the U.S. Army National Guard prior to beginning his career with the Maryland State police on July 5, 1966. David received many accolades throughout his career with the Maryland State Police including, “Trooper of the Year” in 1973. In 1979, he was promoted to Sergeant and placed in charge of the Prince Frederick Criminal Investigation Section. In 1981, David was promoted to Detective Sergeant and assigned to the Annapolis Barrack as the Criminal Section Supervisor. He retired in the year 2000 after many years of dedicated service.

    David was a big sports fan who enjoyed reading, as well as, vacationing at the beach in Wildwood, NJ. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

    He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Pullin (Jeremy) of Pasadena, Stephanie Howell (Bill) of Pasadena, Stacey Michael (Ron) of Severna Park, and Kirsten Slicher (Brian) of Fallston; his brother, Dean Michael; his sisters, Debbie Miller and Denise Braun; as well as, his ten grandchildren, Morgan, Jake, Ryan, Trevor, Evan, Tyler, Nathan, Ethan, Riley, and Ben.

    Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, September 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy. Severna Park 21146. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00am with the interment to follow at Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore.

    Maryland State Police Fallen Heroes Ceremony will held in the MSP Quadrangle at MSP Headquarters, Pikesville, Md.  A luncheon,  provided by the Maryland Troopers Association, will follow the ceremony.
